salvia

Salvia divinorum, yerba de la pastora, ska María pastora, sage of the diviners, or simply salvia, is a dissociative hallucinogen in the Salvia or “mint” family, which includes peppermint, spearmint, and culinary sage. The effects come from an opioid-like molecule called salvinorin A. It is endemic to the Sierra Mazateca in Oaxaca, Mexico, growing primarily in the cloud forest, and were traditionally used fresh, either crushed and mixed with water, or rolled up and chewed, when other plants (ololiuqui and teonanácatl) were unavailable. The effects from oral use can last as long as two hours. Effects from smoking are far shorter.
